1.1 Personal Data
When you register and use Odyssey, we collect information that identifies you, including:
- Profile Information: Name, email address, profile picture, and nickname (provided via Auth0).
- Account Preferences: Writing experience level, daily word count goals, and notification settings.
- Billing Information: Subscription status, billing interval, and payment method type (processed via Stripe). Note: We do not store full credit card numbers; these are handled securely by Stripe.
1.2 User Content
We store the content you create on the Platform, including:
- Book titles, descriptions, and metadata.
- Chapter text, revisions, and annotations.
- Notes, comments, and project progress data.
1.3 Technical and Usage Data
We automatically collect certain information when you visit our Platform:
- Usage Data: Pages visited, time spent, and feature interaction.
- Attribution Data: UTM parameters (source, medium, campaign) and referral URLs to understand how you found us.
- Device Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and User-Agent.
1.4 Cookies, Local Storage, and Marketing Attribution
We use necessary browser storage to remember your cookie choices and, when you explicitly save an article, your saved-reading list. We only use optional analytics storage when you actively allow it through our cookie controls.
When enabled, attribution storage may remember first and last campaign details, including UTM parameters, selected advertising click identifiers, landing URL, referrer, and the time of capture. We use a randomly generated pseudonymous visitor identifier and store only a salted hash of that identifier in our systems. We do not use advertising pixels or device fingerprinting for this purpose.
You can withdraw optional analytics consent at any time through Cookie settings in the site footer. Withdrawal stops further optional tracking and removes the browser record. You can contact us to exercise your data rights in relation to any information we hold.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected data for the following purposes:
- Service Provision: To provide, maintain, and improve our writing tools and dashboard.
- Account Management: To manage your subscription, authentication, and user preferences.
- Gamification: To track your writing progress, streaks, and XP as part of our engagement features.
- Communications: To send you system notifications, updates, and support messages.
- Marketing Analytics: To analyze the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns via UTM attribution.
- Security: To protect our platform and users from unauthorized access or malicious activity.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with trusted third-party service providers ("Processors") necessary to operate the Platform:
- Auth0: For secure authentication and identity management.
- Stripe: For secure payment processing and subscription management.
- Microsoft Azure: For hosting our application and storing your content (SQL Server and Blob Storage).
- Application Insights: For monitoring platform performance and error logging.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption and security practices provided by Microsoft Azure. Chapter content is stored in Azure Blob Storage, while metadata and user records are stored in encrypted SQL databases.
While we strive to protect your data, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to maintain your own backups of your writing.
4.1 Attribution Retention
Anonymous marketing attribution records are retained for up to 180 days from their most recent capture. We use this period to understand campaign performance and conversions while limiting how long pseudonymous campaign data remains available.
5. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: Request the deletion of your account and associated data.
- Portability: Request to export your user content (e.g., your book data).
You can manage most of these through your account settings or by contacting our support team.
6. Children's Privacy
Odyssey is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
